The Edinburgh Medal is a scientific medal given at the Edinburgh Science Festival since 1989.〔http://www.sciencefestival.co.uk/tags/edinburgh-medal〕 As a science award, it is usually awarded to scientists, though it has also been awarded to those primarily involved in popularising of science (David Attenborough and S.J. Gould, the latter of whom was a much better writer than he was a scientist) and in 2015 it was bizarrely awarded to Mary Midgley who despite not being a scientist is best known for her self-promoted anti-scientific "philosophy" based mostly on reviewing books by their title, and also previously to James Lovelock, author of the disproven and absurd Gaia hypothesis. == List of Medallists ==
